Monday March 19th:

The morning brings the sea breeze into the living room/office, as I open the patio doors, rise and shine!  The pelicans are gliding overhead as I look out onto the blue bay of El Yaque.  Connie is up early this morning to go do Yoga with Kathy over at Casa de Nora, so I am up early as well, and have actually started writing the blog the day of for a change!  I typically don’t get around to it until a day later, so I am finally getting better at my vacation schedule, and have caught up with all my work stuff.  Feels more like a vacation!

I made some waffles for breakfast, and did my computer fun from the lovely view out the patio doors onto the sea, love the work environment here!  The wind seems a bit light this morning, and I can clearly see both Coche and the mainland from the second floor apartment.  This could mean some lighter conditions today, but only a fool would try to predict the wind mistress!

As I type the blog, a worker at the construction out on the street sings a local tune in ‘American Idol’ fashion, nearly perfect tone, and this sets the mood of relaxation to start the day!  The palms lazily swaying, the birds chirping, and the clear blue sky makes for a very pleasant morning in the hammock.  Maybe a snooze for a sec…

The morning relaxation is complete, and I pack up the bag for the daily trip to the beach and Vela windsurf center, my ‘job’, if you can call it work!!  Gotta love the whole staff, and Tom and Kathy too!  Such fun for each day, it’s like we are having someone else’s fun along with our own!! I also love the small town feel (About the size of my home town of Babbitt Minnesota!!) and the common bond of living in El Yaque.  So fun to meet friends every few yards on the walk down, and it feels just like home!!

The wind had picked up all morning long, and was plenty strong at 1pm when I got out for photos.  It was a short session with all the subjects flying by, and I was off the water just after 2.  See windsurf photos here.

With the wind growing stronger thru the afternoon, I was able to get out with a 5.7M and the 93lt board, while Connie was on the 5.0M and the 78 Lt.  This was perfect for me as I love a little overpower for the huge jumps!!  And it worked well!!  Connie traded her kit for the same board, but a 4.2 M sail as the afternoon continued.  Plenty of power out on the water today!!  We had a great time playing chase with Steve, Lorenzo, Gerry, and many others, so much more speed when you are racing!!  Love the huge air everyone was getting, and the hooting and hollering shouted the approvals!  So darn fun!!

I kept the rig out all afternoon, and just sailed to my hearts content.  I just couldn’t stop!  Kept saying I was going for one more, and then go in, but the kit was perfect throughout, and I was too darn happy to come in and change it.  I sailed until like 4:30 or so, and had to stop, to keep the body capable of the next day!  A lovely afternoon of sailing bliss, if I do say so myself!

The shower and après sail banter filled the rest of the afternoon, and it was soon happy hour!  We gathered a table of friends for the festivities, and made the hour as happy as we could, which is very happy indeed!  There was plenty of drinks and chat, as we winded down the afternoon, and made plans for dinner.

We started at the terrace, but ended up going to Da Rocco again, as the crowds had found the terrace, and the tables were filled.  The feast at Da Rocco was again tasty, and the group of Neal, Kevin, Michele, Gerry, Connie and me had our fill.  Content and recharged with calories, it was off to bed for another horizontal rest period.

Hasta Mañana,
