Monday Feb 26th
The morning brings the sun around again, and the birds sing me awake from the palms outside my bedroom window. I am a bit slow this morning as the fun the night before kept me up a little late, (Thanks Fredric and Rodger!) So I just go slow thru the morning, and do some work on the laptop, shower, and get ready to visit the beach for another fun day of surfing!
The wind this morning is already strong, and the haze across the water says it’s another sub 5 day! What a great start to the day, 6.0 and steady, you could tell by the kites above kite beach, nice and filled in.
I get to the Vela office, for some fun banter, Tom and Kathy were running the GPS speed trial today and Tuesday, but I was gonna wait till tomorrow to try. See what my competition is like! After the chat I then got out to the sea for some action capture with the cam. Pretty sparse on the water today, and it took a little longer to fill the memory with frozen moments, after a couple days of strong wind, people have to slow down a little! Still, some great shots, See photos here.
The conditions were ripe for an 85lt and a 5.0M for me, and I got out there, happy to be sailing the smallest stuff since arrival! This is amazing for a 230 Lber! I ripped it up, and had just a fantastic session of outside waves, inside chop, and many a nice air boost! I had one that felt like at least mast high! (Insert ‘no brain, no pain’ comment here.) What a great session!
The wind went home early, and left me out near the pier, so I did need to do the walk of shame, but it was so worth it to be sailing such tiny stuff! I just thought back to the ride, and the walk back was a breeze!
I got back to Vela, and got thru the shower ritual and on to the room to get ready for Thai night at the Beach hotel restaurant. I even managed a short nap before dinner to get refreshed after a couple long days.
The crowd of clients was 30+ strong, and we had a feast of giant proportions, Fresh tuna salad, Chicken Penang, Beef and shrimp dishes. The rum and coke, and beers were flowing as well, and the party was so content with the food and friends. See the end of the photo gallery link above for the Thai Night fun shots.
The crowd slowly whittled down, and soon we were closing the bar and restaurant, saying our goodbyes and goodnights, and it was off to bed.
Manana.
