Friday April 1

I awoke to the anticipation of the day’s sailing followed by meeting my wife Connie tonight!  I devoured breakfast, and moved from my single room of 3 weeks to the double room!  Love the second story!  Beautiful views of the sea and El Yaque!

I was very late to the center, around 1:30pm or so, and decided to try some helmet cam today!  I rigged the Cannon Power-shot 220 with my custom remote trigger, and set it to video mode.  The laughter and looks from the beach folks was more than humorous!  Plenty of good responses to the geek and his helmet cam!

I set up and tried a few shots here and there, but was too overpowered on the 5.7M and the 98Lt board!  Had a tuff time keeping it all in play!  I did manage a couple shots that were fairly decent, and as soon as I can upload them the links will be posted below.  Click on the photo to load the .avi video.

Cameraman     Chase              Jibe                 Chase

These are about 3-4Megs each so rather long to wait for 6-10 seconds of video!  If you have broadband, it’s worth it to check them out, but takes too long on a phone modem!  Just some planning rides and the bumpy conditions of an overpowered session!  A couple chase shots as well, but I have to work on my camera aiming techniques!

I came back in after only ten minutes, as the lens was fogging due to the extreme wind chill that occurs while riding.  This cools the waterproof case, glass lens, and the internal fogging commences!  The constant spray is also a problem, and makes for only 10-20 mins of useful shooting time, before the lens is obscured with salt film, or internal fog.

I grabbed a new sail, the 5.2, and kept the 98 lt board.  This was a perfect combo, and I used it right up till just before 5pm!  What a great day of sailing!  Mistress wind was a bit crabby, and did provide some awfully gusty conditions, but I still managed almost 3 hours of good rides!  Sore tired and ready for a shower, I finished the session and made for the room.

Before I left, Peter had called from CCS and said Connie would be late, and would not be here at 5:45, but instead on the 8:15pm flight.  I therefore made plans for a takeout pizza, some beer, and would go pick her up at the airport.

I was the first customer of the evening at Mobu, and got my pizza in the time it took to drink a polarcita beer!  Very fast!  I thanked the staff, and made off with a hot Tropico Latina pizza in a box!  Back at the room, I polished off my half, and called for a taxi.  He was very late, but I was assured the flight was late, and we could still meet her at the airport.  Turns out, we passed each other on the road!  No biggie, just returned and we had the night to ourselves, over pizza and beer!  So nice to have my partner in surf here!  More fun tomorrow!
