Rise and sail! It’s another beautiful morning! After some eggs and coffee, we prepped for the
beach, and made our way to the sand.
I was ready to get some more photo fun in, and follow with some helmet cam shots! It’s a blast
standing in the shallows, snapping off shots of each sailor passing by!
The populated water scene is very interesting to watch. At first folks look at you as an obstacle,
and you have to be watching for the beginners, and get out of their way. I move slightly up-wind to keep
clear of the main path, and settle on a nice little sand bar, about waist-chest deep. From here, the folks
come by, irritated a little for the first couple runs, then when they see the camera is pointed at them, the
windsurf-child comes out! The next runs by are totally driven by the sailors personality and is
demonstrated thru the full on displays of form!
I have so many subjects to choose from! I spend the next half-hour, shooting pictures, rapid fire
style, until the memory is near 75% full. It’s helmet cam time!
Connie had been on a 5.0 with 262 Wizard 100ltr board for the morning session, then came out
again for the photo session, on a 5.9 with 262 again for the afternoon. I grabbed a 6.4M and the 272
Wizard 125lt for a helmet cam ride!
Bernie, at Vela, got to test the squeeze bulb shutter release, (looks like I could move the camera
back one notch, it’s shooting a little low.) Nice looking expression though!
The new bulb and method of hand attachment seem to work quite well. I simply wore out the
batteries from the long photo session, and only got a couple shots via helmet cam. I’ll do better tomorrow.
My session after the cam session was awesome! Another Vela Client, Ace (sp), and I met on the
water for the final 2.5 hr afternoon session. Run upon run of fast up-winders, and plenty-o-ramps jump play!
What a blast to chase and be chased! Ace is fast! I spend the entire 2-4 mi ride each direction, just trying
to keep up! I did manage to catch him by the end of each run, but what a workout punching it every run!
I was in surf heaven, as we were able to go out to the bigger stuff on the outside, using the buddy system and keeping a close eye on each other. This allowed for the monster jumps on the sweet 3-5 ft outside port ramps! The airtime/float downwind is brilliant! I just love to jump!
We came in
at near closing, and slipped right on over to the beach bar for the après surf
discussions. Connie and I, Jim from

After dinner, we had our apertivo, and met Miguel, the owner for a chat, and a tour of the new ‘Gaby’s Voodoo Lounge’. Miguel has been busy! The empty parking and storage area at the roadside end or his place, has been converted to a huge Tiki-hut style open bar! Lots of bar space, tables here and there, pool table, 1000 Watt sound system, great lighting, and a new entrance to the entire property thru a nice new stucco grand entrance! Grand opening this coming Friday! Should be a good party!
After the walk back, we all went to bed, tired from another day blasting around on the waves! Feels great!
